Japan completed the second upset of the tournament by forging a second-half comeback against Germany. Arsenal star Tomiyasu came from the bench at the start of the second half and put in a good shift.
William Saliba was an unused substitute for France as they beat Australia comfortably in the end.
USA faced their most even contest of the group stage against Wales. Matt Turner played all 90 minutes of the match and was close to picking up a clean sheet. The goal he conceded was a Gareth Bale penalty. A good performance from USA’s number 1.
England kicked off their group stage campaign against Iran on Monday. It was the first Arsenal feature and Saka did not disappoint – he scored two goals before being substituted off as Southgate made wholesale changes in the second half.
That’s two goals in the competition now for the 21-year-old.
